Textiles

Today in my oldham volentary meeting, i ws shown a program from the last textiles exhibiton. over the summer i found an old circular loom, and have been playing with some wool my mum bought a couple of months back, i have always enjoyed sowing and weaveing and have taught many of my friends, whilst looking for books online i came across cloth dolls.

Project runway and Aunty Gok

Who knew that a hit T.V show could be so creative.
over the holidays i havebeen glued to project runway, jotting down ideas, influences, fashion designers, project briefs, new approches to work, non tradtional materials and so on.
I think the program is so inspirational and has gotten me into a very textile frame of mind.
I have been looking for a book on project runway but can only fid sticker books which is just depressing as im not a child and i believe the project briefs and outcomes are just mind blowing.
I am also a little disapointed as the fashion designers on the show do not feature any of there work from project runway on there websites!!

ALso over the summer i have been glued to Aunty Gok. (Gok Wan) and his hit shows how to look good naked and gok wans fashion fix.
He shows the beauty in all of us and how tocelebrate your body in a number of ways useing different garments and accesorys.
The body is a canvas and to finaly find someone who brings back the comfidence into these women is teruely inspiring.
HIs fashion fixes are imaculate and how to look god naked the photography is truely breath takeing.

Oldham gallery volenteering

So this year i have to go out and make connections, exhibit my work or get more envolved in the art scene.
So i have decided to make a smart move.
seen as i decided the stress of free for arts was just to much to bare, i decided to stand down and just display my work and help out when the occasion asks for it.
I felt a little regretful of the decision as i have never given anything up before and usualy se things through to the very end.
so i decided to step up my game a little, make myslef feel a bit betetr for the opertunity i threw away.
I applyed for volentary work.
I applyed for volentary work at Oldham Gallery.
I have had 2 meeting so far and have a very possitive excited feeling about this.
With it being a small but still major gallery i thought were better to apply than there.
I had a meeting with Joy Thorp who is the education manager at the gallery, we discussed oppertunities for me to help out and to get involved with.
I have had two meeting now and i am super excited to start.
I get to help curate the exhibitions, shaperone one of the biggest school links programs work with local artists helping to teach classes, some fo the artists i have researched in my collage years, and with my certificate in printmakeing i have been highly recomnded to help out in the printmakeing classes.
Also i get to read through artists proposals and select artists whos work would be displayed in future exhibition.
I have enquiered about how i can display work myself, and have had a meeting with a textile artist who has shown me work for a exhibition that wil be takeing place soon which features one of MMU'S textile tutors and graduate students work, and input into organising the exhibition.

I will shortly recieve an email about dates to work, and have been told that volenteering at this time in the year is a "very smart" move by all 3 oldham gallery staff in the meeting and Lisa who will be volenteering along side me who graduated 4 years ago.

I am extremly please with myself for what i have achieved so far and useing my common sence to beat the rush when it come to the time when we are suppost to be finding that placement or makeing our mark on the art world creatign new conections and networking.

:D smiles all round

brief catch up

Well from the postwith the update i will try and do a very brief post before i talk more about my recent work and my future work.

So i talked about:

my scrapbook.

Inside my A3 scrap book are images, postcards, photographs and magazine cut outs business cards ect.
Each image i fidn inspireing in ther own individual way, its like a visual brain storm of influences from the everyday image on a postcard that is passed and ignored by any, is captured in a new composition along side images that help to enphasize the beauty of the image alone and with others.

Sold work.
I have been paid for my photography work, i took  a couple of portraits of a family friends sons, edited them also and was paid for my work, my work will then be used as a tatoo template and tatooed onto a family friend.
I have also been asked to be photographer and editer at her wedding which takes place next year, which i will again be paid for.
HAPPY DAYS!!!!

Painitng project
is still to one side, i will be carrying this out in the future as my painting skills are childlike.

Free for arts festival
My work will be displayed in the free for arts festival, i was key organiser but found being ignored and left clueless extremly stresful and i decided to step aside, i keep inputting ideas and heping out when ever asked.

I do regret stepping down from this possition but i decided to step uip the game a little and i am now a volentary worker at oldham gallery, more information will be posted after this.
